Google News German Goes Public

The German-language Google News is now officially online, covering 700 news sources. Germany is the 7th country to get a country-specific Google News service (after Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, U.K. and U.S.), and the first to get Google news in another language than English.

Search Engine Thumbnails Legal

A US court ruled search engine thumbnails to be OK. According to Silicon Valley BusinessJournal, Judge Thomas Nelson argues that “[visual search engine] Arriba’s use of the images serves a different function than [professional photographer] Kelly’s use — improving access to information on the Internet versus artistic expression.”
