Celiac Research Center Wins SEO Contest Prize Money

Now that’s an interesting twist to the alternative V7ndotcom Elursrebmem search engine optimization contest: $4,600 go to the sites ranking #1 and #4, who asked for all prize money to be donated to the Center for Celiac Research.

A little bit of background; back in late 2005, Greg Boser of web marketing blog WebGuerilla didn’t like the fact that the V7N contest asked for V7ndotcom Elursrebmem participants to link back to the V7N homepage. So he proposed an alternative contest, which later adopted the same target keywords... but for this alternative contest the rules were to not link to V7n and to instead link to Matt Cutts’ blog without using “www”. To participate in both contests you had to read the fine print of both competitions, because the V7N also allowed you to use the text “We support v7n.com” instead of a backlink... by doing this, you’d get away meeting both contest’s requirements.

So, of the top 5 sites for V7ndotcom Elursrebmem, only two complied with Greg Boser’s rules, and they were apparently both in it for Celiac research – highlighted here (I know the Watching Paint Dry webmaster, but not the first one):

  1. v7ndotcomelursebmem.net
  2. jimwestergren.com/v7ndotcom-elursrebmem/
  3. v7ndotcomelursebmem.com
  4. watching-paint-dry.com/v7ndotcom-elursrebmem/
  5. web-marketing.pl

... and the rest of the sites leave this contest empty-handed (then again, there was another prize bucket they could score winning the main V7N contest). Pam King of the Center for Celiac Research says, “This sounds like an interesting contest and the Center is pleased to be working again with a very committed person who cares deeply about his kids and helping us find a cure for celiac disease.”
