On Philipp's & Ionut's blogs, the screenshot shows the "image column" and the "news column" with width = 50%
Or, I do not see that!

Tom, the Google grid dynamically adjusts to the browser window width you choose. Both Ionut and I took a screenshot from a rather smallish browser window so that you can still make out the important parts of the screenshot when resized. This is actually a good example of why cropping and down-sizing of a photo source needs a human editor at this point to be good at all times (an AI would have to be very smart to emulate this).

Using the site search operator is kinda neat:

(Look at the self-referential second thumbnail...)

No image version for me yet, even when I clicked the link in your post. Is this being rolled out gradually?

Does this link work for you Niraj:

I'm not seeing the image version either. None of the links above work – no 'image version' link text on the left bar. Must not be out in all data centers yet.

Philipp, that gives me news results from the past month for "test", but not for an image version. The results are text with some thumbnails like usual. Basically I have the same situation that Reto just mentioned, so it must not be everywhere yet.

By the way, I do see the image version from work, maybe clearing cookies may make it appear? I'll have to try when I go home.

Google spokesperson Gabriel Stricker handed us the following statement:

<<Google News Image Version allows users a better way to "see" the news. And sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words.

This is an exciting new way for our users to browse the top news of the day and then dig down on the details by going to the source of the image to read the full story. In the same way that Google News users can find multiple versions of a story today from various sources, now they can find multiple images from those same sources.

Google News Image Version gives users a visual representation of the "Top Stories" section of Google News. When a users mouses over a image, the corresponding headline will be highlighted on the right. Similarly, when a user mouses over an headline, the corresponding image will be highlighted. Users can click "related images" for some stories to see similar images and stories to the one they are interested in.>>
