Google announces a new version of Google Docs... http://google-d-s.blogspot.com/2007/06/changes-are-afoot.html
Is Google spreadsheets coming? Or is this only an enhancement of the existing features? |

Spreadsheets are already there, and it will only be an update to the docs list (probably not to the editors): http://groups.google.com/group/GDSupdates/browse_thread/thread/a9456d3a2eba2ca3 |

But one could imagine that this is an update to the UI, which makes it easier to add new document types, and perhaps even integrate tightly with other gSoftware(tm). |

Agreed – it must be slideshows. It's got to be a big update if they're announcing it on their blog before it has even been released.
...besides, it's summer, isn't it? |

From http://docs.google.com/support/ (on the right hand side):
"6/26/2007 That's right, very soon we're going to launch a new Docs list – a wish fulfilled for those of us who've wanted an easier way to organize and manage our documents and spreadsheets. Why are we announcing the launch of our new Docs list before it has ... Read more" |

Mrrix32, you're faster than me :) |

I'm guessing that means it's new then :-) |
David Hetfield | 16 years ago # |
Yeah, but what is that exactly? |
Martin Porcheron | 16 years ago # |
You can sort the list of Documents now (I'm not sure you could before). Also if a document has a long title and tags it is now cut on to two lines. |

The " New Features " page has the following on top:
<< Easier invitations You shared your concerns about the old invitation system: needing to invite everyone on a mailing list, or having problems inviting users who had multiple addresses and multiple Google Accounts. So we've simplified our invitations to work better in those cases. Best of all, inviting people is as easy as ever. >>

It seems to me that Google are testing the waters to see if people really are waiting for presentations (by attempting to build up hype and seeing if the community latch on). |

I just hope the servers won't let us down when the moment of truth arrives.
(I know it's rare, but anything is possible) |

The new design is live for me in the US. Here is the main interface upon logging into Docs & Spreadsheets.

You can create a new Document, Spreadsheet or Folder by clicking on the 'New' button.

Selecting one of the checkboxes next to a Document or Spreadsheet and selecting the 'More Actions' button will give you the following options.

Clicking on the 'New > Folder' option brings you to a screen similar to this: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1062/634787779_e4a4cf4439_o.png
The folder name and description area becomes an editable field just by mousing over it.
After creating a couple of folders, you can click on any folder that you like from the left hand menu. Also, you can minimize any link section on the left by clicking on the plus/minus image.
