to get results from their database
It has been speculated by some SEOs that their ratings are used by Search Engines and will influence a sites rankings (especially MSN)

The siteadvisor.com/ is really stupid because it also counts the Google Alerts emails are a problem. Compare Yahoo and Google.
Yahoo sends stupid mails (which I don't think you can get rid of) but Google Alerts mail are optional you can sign up for them or no, your wish entirely. They also have a huge list of cookies which belongs to the search results you click not set by the Google site...
