Anyone else gets it? |
In case anyone's missing what I saw, David had set his status to the URL of a YouTube video. In the Google Talk Flash client, I was seeing a YouTube icon and the name of the video instead of just the URL. When having a conversation with him, it showed a thumbnail and the option to play the clip or visit the page.
I know they've had this feature for YouTube URLs in conversations for a while but I've never seen it for statuses before. |
A bit more info for anyone who's interested... the gadget calls this rest URL to get the movie details:
http://www.youtube.com/api2_rest?method=youtube.videos.get_details&dev_id=jZ7qUjzhS14&video_id=y8Kyi0WNg40
This API is documented here:

Be careful, log out before watching porn videos David :-P |
lol... I'm not watching porn. (Well, not on YouTube i'm not :P)
BTW, This doesn't work neither for Gmail Talk nor Google Talk. :/ |
I really do like these features. And I know it's been said, but why no updates to the actual Google Talk client? |
Rumor has it, that there will be an update real soon. |
I think we'll see a new build before August 24. |
Ionut Why August 24?
David Where can I find out more about the rumour? |
Yes... you two sound like you know something we don't.... |
On August 24, GTalk celebrates its birthday. Last year they added a lot of features in August (http://googletalk.blogspot.com/2006/08/its-finally-here.html). |
It's kind of weird how the online version is "better" than the desktop client. |
Any idea when the AIM teamup will happen? |
Probably soon. Google has shown that it is developing it's actively Talk network now (although Gmail Chat and the Google Talk app haven't been updated).
I found "proof" a while back that Gmail chat would get AIM integration and Multi-User Chat: http://mpwebwizard.com/2007/04/29/multi-user-chat-in-google-talk/
Oddly though, this came to the gadget first. |
This feature worked in Google Talk flash edition from the very beginning. |
