Seems on the expensive site though. But I guess it wasn't made for bloggers and the like who can spend something but not a lot...

At $100 a year? That seems pretty inexpensive for phone support and search across 5,000 pages to me.

I'd say if you can't stretch to US$8 (£4) a month then the existing CSE infrastructure is probably good enough. That said, I'd be very keen to see XML Google search results...

Less then $10/month for most of the sites that I imagine would use this service though...

Below 5,000 pages would be OK, but e.g. for this blog I'd need to search ~10,000 pages, and Ionut says that costs $500/ year... that's ~$42/ month...

Yeah, I'm guessing the businesses that could afford this service all have well over 5,000 pages. Even some small sites/blogs have over that many pages! The cost does seem on the high side.
