Another feature ended: Google Maps' click to call business. Says Google Maps guide Mike (verified by his icon, I think):
<<[T]his feature was a long-running experiment, and in the end it was decided to discontinue it.
There are however lots of other features we're adding to maps in the hope of making it even more useful. And if you are in the United States and liked click-to-call, check out a different experiment we're doing:

I wonder why they did that. Too expensive? Too many prank calls? |
It would be cool to tie in the click to call with Google Talk. Maybe in the next version of Google Talk we might see more phone integration like what Skype already has. |
I don't know why they didn't keep it... it was really useful. I thought to stop the prank calls they would associate a phone number to your Google Account so you couldn't just log any phone number in there. And you would have to verify your phone number by dialing a n digit code on your phone that was provided when you registered the phone the website.
Oh well. Goog-411 is really useful too... here to hoping that stays. |
This reminds of a thought I had, why doesn't Google offer a directory enquires service in the UK (for example, 118-GOO).
Google forgot to announce that Google SMS doesn't exist in the UK anymore because they are working hard to make it better. I actually used the service frequently and got annoyed to be told about it being discontinued, after they'd done it. |
Am I wrong in thinking that Click-to-Call is still available for normal web search results? |
Google replacing memory? I remember, I suggest Google can keep this service, click call, but via my local phone.
Now I use phonedeck software to make local call. Can Google add this feature.
Although VOIP, skype, Gtalk everywhere. I still use commone phone everyday. |
