Webware has a post about the current court case between Google and a number of copyright holders such as Viacom. The post says that YouTube will launch a content filtering system in September. This was mentioned by one of Google's Lawyers.
It's interesting to note that Google itself has not come out and announced that this system will be in place by September.
<< "We hope to have the testing completed and technology available by sometime in the Fall," said a Google spokesman in an e-mail. "But this is one of the most technologically complicated tasks that we have ever undertaken, and as always with cutting-edge technologies, it's difficult to forecast specific launch dates." >>
I can't imagine how much video data that Google has to collect to be able to compare digital fingerprints of video clips.

I don't know why this is called news. They've announced this launch multiple times for almost a year:

This is the first time they've given a hint to when the system will be available. All other times they just said it would be available 'soon'. |
