Another fairly dull update... but I thought I'd share it:
In January, I asked whether AdSense was coming to Google Apps: http://ruscoe.net/blog/2007/01/adsense-coming-to-google-apps-for-your.asp
Well that service doesn't exist anymore, so maybe they decided against the idea.
However, they now seem to have added the following:
* Prometheus (uses the same code as Google Mashups Editor) https://www.google.com/a/ruscoe.net/ServiceLogin?service=ah
* Knowledge Search (same code as the recent Russian site) https://www.google.com/a/ruscoe.net/ServiceLogin?service=cf
And also one I briefly mentioned it a while ago in another thread:
* Webmaster tool https://www.google.com/a/ruscoe.net/ServiceLogin?service=sitemaps
The rest are still listed here: http://ruscoe.net/google/google-account-service-names/#gafyd
I'm not quite sure how all these could benefit being part of Google Apps but I guess time will tell... |
Tony: i could not get the login form Knowledge Search via the link above.
others can try this link: https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=cf
once you login, if you speak only english, like me, try this translation URL: http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fotvety.google.ru%2Fotvety%2F&langpair=ru%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8
btw, looks interesting.

Not very sure about Prometheus & Knowledge Search but surely webmasters tool will help a lot of people
Why to have it under different Google account when you already have the hosted account for the same domain. |
>>Not very sure about Prometheus & Knowledge Search but surely webmasters tool will help a lot of people
I feel the opposite. I think that the Google Answers 2.0 will be more favored by SMBs and big corps, whether being used internally or as a customer support forum. |
<< Tony: i could not get the login form Knowledge Search via the link above. >>
Josue, these are Google Apps services and behave differently to Google Accounts services.
Basically, when a Google Apps service exists, you will see a page which shows the title in the top bar and says "Service not available" like this:
https://www.google.com/a/ruscoe.net/ServiceLogin?service=cf
If the service doesn't not exist, you get a "Bad Request" message like this:
https://www.google.com/a/ruscoe.net/ServiceLogin?service=foo
That is in contrast to the Google Accounts links which will show either a login box when it exists:
https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=cf
Or a "page you requested is invalid" error when it doesn't:
https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=foo
Haochi, that's an interesting way of looking at it. I hadn't thought of that way to use the Knowledge Search! |
I think any Google service can have a corporate use. |
Agreed, but many don't benefit from being part of Google Apps other than the benefit of it being one login to maintain for the user. |
Tony: In these two instances I can see the benefits to making them part of Google Apps.
GME: Host my mashups on my Google Apps domain? Yes please. Similarly, have people sign-in (and control permissioning for Mashups) using my Google Apps domain. I Want!
Knowledge Search: As Haochi suggested, it would be very useful to control permissions / access to Q&A internally. |
And moreover, the more products, the more justification there is for the price tag of Google Apps |
Google Apps isn't that expensive compared to other corporate systems though. And the fact that it's hosted externally by a reputable business means that the cost of maintenance is near enough zero. |
FYI.
Haochi mentions a new "Google Answers China" site here:
http://googlified.com/2007google-answers-china/
It seems they're somehow using the Knowledge Search "cf" Google Apps login along with a SAML request:
https://www.google.com/a/tianya.cn/ServiceLogin?service=cf
Just check the URL parameters when you click this sign in link in the top right: http://wenda.tianya.cn/wenda/loginredirect?continue=%2Fwenda%2F |
Oh ok, otvety, I remember now |
