Interesting...
But iGoogle is not an operating system yet. It's just an interface.

pretty good, but i can imagine this taken in a different light – from this, to this – where the first 'this' was something good – like not having to sit in traffic for a couple of hours a day – to 'this' – someone sitting in traffic, road raging, smog all around, etc.

:)

("WAT ZOEKT U?" is Dutch for "what are you looking for?" The screen is from a 1984 C64 software mapping the Netherlands :))

I'm actually surprised at how *little* has changed in all that time...the same paradigms mostly apply!

Yeah! Since Xerox invented first windows interface no changes appeared.
But hardware prices decreased greatly. Ain't they?

Philipp – I'm sitting at home working instead of driving into work today – and I hardly ever leave my small town in the middle of nowhere, 'cos I don't have to any more – surely this is more than an Interface change – if you asked me which would I give up – windows/iGoogle or the Internet – I know which one I'd choose (I want to keep multi-tasking). In any case interface changes are important otherwise only geeks would use these machines (and then we'd never get to talk to normal people). As a computer user since 77, personal computers started making a difference about 81 for me, but the real rpoductivity increases happened when the Internet arrived. Now I just can't keep up – it's all good.

It comes to the conclusion: Systems Software Research is Irrelevant!

Cool, but what is with this one: http://blogoscoped.com/files/software-progress-2.jpg? Last time I checked CS was newer than Duck hunt.
