I bought my first notebook two months ago (HP-Compaq, nx6320):

15" LCD screen (I'll need new eyes soon)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (this is so bad, 99% of the games or 3d apps don't like it – anyway, I don't play so much)
Windows XP Pro SP2 (and Ubuntu in a Virtual Machine -yeah, it works-)
SoundMAX HD Audio (it's ok, but I miss the line-in jack)
WiFi, IRDA (and a normal phone modem, but I think it's crap in middle of the ADSL/cable connections)
Fingerprint reader (girls love this gadget, really)
4 USB ports (connect your mouse, the tablet, and your dog too)
Gigabit ethernet (yeah, but I don't know any place with a 1 gigabit hub right now)
Firewire (in Argentina it doesn't exists)

It has a touchpad, but I hate to move with that. So I carry with me a nice but common microsoft optical mouse and my mousepad.
And at home I have my lovely genius tablet to sketch, paint and that stuff.
