A few years does not seem like a long time. But, one has to marvel at how life can change forever for a tiny fortunate few who had the right idea at the right time – and created successful strategies to realize their goals.
Just imagine how 'suddenly' life has changed for the following idea originators:
Digg YouTube MySpace FaceBook Reddit TechCrunch ProBlogger Huffington Post TMZ Ruby on Rails
Out of thousands of efforts, only a minute fraction ever make it big.
It will be interesting to see who the next big winners will be during the next few years, and whicht few ideas and strategies will hit with society.

What's interesting to note that there were already video sites out there before YouTube... and that there were already social networks before MySpace... and tech blogs before TechCrunch... and perhaps (?) digg-style sites before Digg.com... so you start to wonder: what strategies and contexts makes one site highly successful and another not? |
Digg style sites before Digg? Slashdot, Metafilter, ...
As you say Philipp – what's the secret sauce that makes Digg and MySpace explode? Or perhaps more importantly, how do they keep their audience? |
But at Slashdot, as opposed to what (mostly) happens at Digg, the editor decides which story makes the frontpage right... |
Sometimes it's not a matter of doing the right thing, it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time. |
