My Google navbar now shows Products instead of Video.

Anyone else getting this? Maybe they're trying to push people to Google Product search for the holiday season. |

I see it here as well. A rather unwise decision. |
pooin | 16 years ago # |
yes, you're right
but iGoogle not has products |

Froogle seems more like a promo for Checkout than a real service. |

[moved from "New links in Google SERP"]
Maybe I'm wrong, but recently "Products" took the place of "Video" among the navigational links at the top of every Google Web SERP. |
Above 5 comments were made in the forum before this was blogged,

I would prefer a consistent Navbar across all Google products and for the return of the old SERPS links above the query input (like on international versions Google). |

Excuse me, when I checked the forum before posting, I overlooked this thread. |

Apparently, this was changed at least two days ago. http://209.85.135.104/search?q=cache:zhool8dxBV4J:www.google.com/+google&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&client=firefox-a "This is G o o g l e's cache of http ://www.google.com/ as retrieved on 20 Nov 2007 14:57:54 GMT." |

I posted about this over at Google Groups just now, it's quite annoying not being able to get a consistent top bar but I just plain don't use Product Search since I do all of my shopping (except for Music and Software) in downtown San Francisco so this just makes it worse.

I also see the Products link... when I click it, it changes to Video... but when I click the Video link, it doesn't change back to Products. odd. |

Probably not all the pages have been updated. |

Why are you saying Product Search results are biased? There is a button to filter the initial results based on Google Checkout availability. It does not constitute a bias in the initial results.
As you know, relevancy and unbiased results are values Google is strongly committed to. It's right to question this stand, but you should come with serious points ;-) |

Has anyone considered the fact that this could only be a temporary 'seasonal' change? I mean, this IS the major shopping season in the US. I know that I have been checking product search more often lately than at any time before to compare prices. |

I happened to notice that (at least in the US for me), this search: http://www.google.com/search?q=christmas+lights now shows "Product Search" as #1 which I've never seen before.
Kinda a bummer because it pushes my result down one ... :-( |

I think they should have AdWords AdSense and Analytics on Top Navigation level instead of more, products etc... |

Did you notice that Gmail Title Head is now Email From Google instead of the old one Welcome to Gmail. gmail: email from google

> Why are you saying Product Search > results are biased?
Because Google Product Search results favor the option to switch to Google Checkout-only results, as opposed to, say, switching to PayPal-only results. Furthermore, even in default view every result which supports Google Checkout receives an extra badge, which makes it stand out a bit – there is no such badge for PayPal-supporting stores, for instance.
> Has anyone considered the fact that this > could only be a temporary 'seasonal' change?
Possible... though admittedly changing menu entries back and forth goes against certain interface usability philosophies as it decreases "expectability" (is that a word?), so it comes with a price... |

Interesting, that doesn't happen here (not even with a "gl=us" parameter). Do you have a screenshot? |
RC | 16 years ago # |
Oh please. Would also like a filter for american express only? Paypal is their competitor, when they accept google checkout at ebay, google would be glad to add a filter for paypal.
This has nothing to do with being biased. But, their results suck. |

> "expectability" (is that a word?)
(I think the word you're looking for is "expectancy".) |
Hashim Warren | 16 years ago # |
"This has nothing to do with being biased."
RC, actually in your argument you just gave the definition of "bias". |

I would disagree that Google Video is not interesting anymore. I love Google Video for the same fact that I like all of the other Google search products. It searches across all platforms now, instead of just it's own. I see the partnership between YouTube and Google Video as Google Video provides search, YouTube provides community and hosting. Similar to Blogger and Google Blog Search...and Google Web Search and Google Page Creator. I suppose eventually Google will have searches for all types of media, and services to host your own content. |

This is probably temporary and only for the Holiday season (Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve) |

interesting... is there any way to override this google's nav bar with user's own? any extension to Fx, Greasemonkey script or some user CSS?
any iseas? |

Are there any changes made to More option? (the Video is new there, of course) |
Seasonal move? | 16 years ago # |
Maybe this has more to do with the Holiday Shopping season than any other business direction.... |
Freiddie | 16 years ago # |
Wow, it's hard to imagine that people actually notice such unnoticeable changes... Or maybe I just don't use those other types of searches much. |

It's still the same for iGoogle page.

[Moved from "New: "Google Products"?" and links fixed – Tony]
Hey, I just, for the first time ever, saw the Google Products thing on the startpage. I wasn't able to find <b>anything</b> about it on the net.. Is this new??

Nobody clicks the 'More' drop down menu, I guess.. |
Martin Porcheron | 16 years ago # |
I'm seeing an updated Nav bar with a shorter dropdown now. Still no "even more" link though.
