I didn't see this mentioned here (which surprises me), but if it was, my apologies.
Saw it here: http://mashable.com/2008/01/10/gmail-adds-group-mailing-list-functions/

Seems pretty cool. (Which, if I remember my schooling, is the true measure of awesome software.) |
My mistake, I should have paid better attention. The Mashable article references the latest post on the official Gmail blog, which I hadn't read, but in doing so, they gave the impression it was a new feature. I haven't used the contact manager more than a handful of times, so I believed it. I should have read the comments at the post, which would have explained why there wasn't even a new thread in the forum here. I've stopped using feed readers (gasp!), so the less-suggestive-but-perhaps-easy-to-misinterpret Gmail blog post slipped past.
I guess I can't complain when Google likes to do "refresher" posts on existing features, as it helps me rediscover played-with but unused and forgotten features that might actually be useful to me in new contexts. I don't like how often these posts get misinterpreted, though. It doesn't happen here that much, obviously, but it happens elsewhere often enough that you have to be vigilant in not falling for (or contributing to) the misinformation. |
I read on several articles that explain that creating groups is new. Even on Digg. I don't know who said that but I use that function since years, so it's not new at all. |
I want to export folders from internet explorer to gmail. How can I do this?
Thanks, Gene |
<<My mistake>> Well, it seems to be Mashable's mistake was misinterpretting the Gmail Blog post which actually talks about using the feature for a particular use. |
Gmail Blog didn't say that this feature is new http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2008/01/create-personal-mailing-lists-through.html
<< I found a really useful solution for emailing small groups like this one that is easier to use with the new contact manager interface, which we launched in Gmail for IE7 and Firefox2. >>
The already-existing feature is easier to use in the new contact manager. |
