Since mac is a unix-based OS, I wonder if this will also mean a fully native version of Picasa for linux coming soon.

Keep hoping. This is more likely a sign that wine on BSD is becoming a reality; in other words, the Mac version will be as bad as the Linux version. But we (intel) Mac users get wine, right!? So we can finally run Microsoft Office... oh wait.
