I was searching for "saudi riyal" in Google and in the second results page, I've found this warning message: "In response to a complaint we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 1 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint that caused the removal(s) at ChillingEffects.org."
I doubt it is a matter of copyright, and I would have been less suprised if it concerned a search for "nazi game" or "tiananmen massacre", but for a currency?! and from Canada (I'm currently in Ontario)?!
Unfortunately, Google doesn't explain why they removed the result, and I may deliver a bad report for my International Business class because of this policy *sigh*

Do you have any -real- reason of this censorship? |
Jerome I am not seeing any 2nd result that you mention.. I am in Toronto, ON! |
I get the same DMCA message from the UK. If I click through to ChillingEffects.org, it says "Notice Unavailable".
I wonder if that's just an administrative problem, or whether the DMCA complainant managed to get their complaint removed too. |
this is what I see what I do the same search .

I see the notice on every page.
/pd – Jérôme is talking about the 2nd results *page* not the 2nd result! ;-) |
oh ok.. mea culpa.. tis an error between the keyboard and the chair..
I see it now..!! |
(I sent off a mail to Google press support and will update should they reply...) |
Just received this response from Google...
<<As you know, the notice at the bottom of the page appears when we have removed a result in response to a copyright complaint. You can see more about the procedure, and ways that webmasters can challenge complaints, here: http://www.google.com/intl/en/dmca.html . We forward complaints to the non-profit Chilling Effects organization for posting on their site. They use this data as a public service for monitoring and studying the impact of these removals. Chilling Effects is not always able to put the complaints up right away, however, and apparently have not yet posted this one.>> |
"when we have removed a result in response to a copyright complaint"
Who holds the copy rights for "saudi riyal" = that was the target search term correct ?? |
Yes, it is. Juste tape the currency name in Google (universal search, hl=en) and see at the bottom of the 2nd page. I still don't undersand. |
