In the URL of the Doodle is after 08 a c. If you remove it the symbols under the e is changed: with c: http://www.google.com/logos/lunarnewyear08c.gif without: http://www.google.com/logos/lunarnewyear08.gif |
Isn't it the same symbol just turned around? |
I was just told the bottom one is the symbol for "luck" (fú, 福) but it's appropriate in this situation to turn it around which then means "luck has arrived" (fú dào)*. Maybe Google first used the correct but less appropriate version and then added the new logo, changing the image file name in case users or proxies had the other file cached?
(*Reminds me of the tradition of hanging a horseshoe upside down so that the luck won't run out... though apparently others say it needs to be hung pointing down so that the luck will pour onto you!) |
