what are your recommendations for a lightweight OS that runs on intel/AMD chip sets ??

some Conditions,

1) should be mountable on a UMPC /PC .
2) IPv6 stack enabled over IPV4
3) Compatibility to Open source stds /apps

I'm not sure if it fits, but the DSL (damn small linux) isn't enough? I'm not involved so much with the penguin, but I tried it once and it works for the basic things.

How lightweight? I mean compared to vista, and linux OS is lightweight :P I assume you've already used Ubuntu?

Is lighter than Ubuntu, but I don't know how much memory it uses. In DSL's wiki, says:
Minimum Requirements for DSL with X-Window:
   * i386
   * 8 MB RAM

I don't know if it has IPv6 (but probably it's easy to install? I don't know)

Or build your own LFS (Linux From Scratch) – it is a fun adventure for the whole family to enjoy!
