I try to add the new "Dilbert" widget..I get an "iTunes" widget.
This thing is so buggy..I may just scrap it. Not worth the trouble. I try to delete a module..and it comes back.
What a piece of junk. |
Try Netvibes. It's better than iGoogle: http://netvibes.com |
thanks for the tip. i am doing that right now- and i sure like netvibes so far. |
How is Netvibes at authenticating with Google services like Gmail and Google Calendar? I want to avoid giving a 3rd party my Google credentials, so this would be a dealbreaker for me if they store/manage the credentials instead of using Google's API. |
I don't know. Netvibes may be incrementally better, but for me at least, a heavy user of iGoogle, it's been pretty stable.
Plus, iGoogle wins due to the changing themes and general ease of being part of the "Google account package" – so if I'm signed into Gmail, then I can easily get to iGoogle and then Google Docs if I want.
It's just easier than having a separate Netvibes setup. |
Google Reader doesn't load every once in awhile. Makes me kind of irked.
iGoogle is satisfying for me, though. |
Brinke, You seem to have more iGoogle trouble than the rest of us. Have you tried clearing out your cache or testing in a different browser? |
Niraj: I agree with you, so I remove the mail widget from Netvibes. Don't forget that Google also asks for passwords from other services:
* import Hotmail contacts in orkut (they don't store the credentials) * add AIM to Google Chat * Gmail's mail fetcher * post to blogs from Google Docs * etc. |
Yes, I clear the cache, etc. If you go to the Google groups page for iGoogle......you'll see I am not alone. |
<<You seem to have more iGoogle trouble than the rest of us.>>
Actually, my iGoogle can be pretty bad at times, although it seems to fix itself every so often. The new preferences page is currently appaulling and I'm amazed it was allowed to be rolled out to everyone. |
Here's another trick I just discovered. I have about 7 tabs..and maybe 2 dozen modules on each.
I try to add one of the modules....it won't go on the page.
If I try to add an RSS feed..it will. I can't put another pre-packaged module on anywhere. But I can add a zillion more RSS feeds if I want.
Curious.
I have tried out Netvibes..(does it always show the netvibles splash page first?) and I like Pageflakes a lot too.
Wonder if Yahoo and/or My Yahoo! will go to a similiar construct? My Yahoo! still looks very 90's, tho it does have drag n drop. |
Others report the same problems: from Google Groups: (and theres a lot more than these.)
"Everything is working with my iGoogle, except deleting and adding gadgets. Also deleting a tab doesn't work. For a test I opened a second iGoogle account -> with this one everything is ok. No idea how I can get my primary one working again. Of course I did already delete cookies. I tried with several different browsers (IE7, Firefox, Opera) – always the same result: can't delete or add gadgets and tabs. Please Help!"
"igoogle won't let me change themes. How do I fix this? I thought google was better so I switched and that was a big mistake. I don't get how people deal with this crap all the time. I have had nothing but problems. Gmail takes longer to load too. I am ready to abandon google altogether."
"I've been using iGoogle for the past year and a half with no problems. However, for the past three days, none of the feeds/gadgets that I try to add to my tabs seems to "stick." I do the usual, with the latest Firefox, where I click on the RSS logo on a blog, the option to Add to Google comes up, I select it. Then, the screen redirects to my active iGoogle tab...and nothing. No new feed, no new gadget. Just the same thing as before. The same thing happens (or fails to happen) if I try to add the feed via the "Add Stuff" section. Nothing seems to stick. Anybody else have this problem? Do any Google developers know about this?"
