Have you tried WatchMouse? It's similar, only it tries from multiple locations. There's also JustPing, which instead of accessing the website tries to ping the server the site is hosted on.

Examples:

http://just-ping.com/index.php?vh=blogoscoped.com

I use them when a user reports that one of my sites isn't up, just to double check where the issue is.
