Aspect Ratio of Charts with Map Type

The updated Google charts API has provision for charts that consist of a map in which coloring of countries or states can be specified.

Google charts require specifying a size (i.e. an image width and height).
On most charts if one dimension is too small with respect to the other then the shorter one is clipped. With the map type, the two dimensions seem to be scaled independently. For example, a map might be created in which Tennessee appears tall and narrow instead of short and wide.

Normally I would prefer my maps to have a more normal or consistent appearance.
Does anyone know what ratio between width and height should be used to scale them the same for either a flat map or a globe?
Is it different for each of geographic areas that can be mapped?

Does anyone know what widths and heights to use for each map, other than the world map, to make them all the same scale?

The documentation says the largest size is 440x220, but that does not solve these questions.
