I've just downloaded and installed it (amazingly, it now installs) and I still see "Launch Gmail"

Which Version of Labs Edition do you use? I have got 1.0.203.1549 (To see it right click on Talk Icon > help)

Google Talk, Labs Edition Version 1.0.212.1550 with all gmail item here
