I'm expecting a few pleasant surprises to come out during Google I/O any regulars here lucky enough to be attending?

Even though I've seen Google Earth before, there's something very cool about having it in a little window in your browser! :-)

Very cool, but who asked too install itself for Firefox, when I installed it from IE? (Also, it installed to every one of my 4 firefox profiles, which is a bit rude)?

Above 5 comments were made in the forum before this was blogged,

Philipp, you forgot to mention you don't only need Firefox or IE, you need...Windows!
I do not have Windows, so I don't know what that API looks like.

Thanks Tom!

Edit: I changed "in your browser" to "in your <ins>(Windows)</ins> browser".

"<ins>" : hé hé, I remember you wrote that in your book :-) How good is netiquette.

Still I am suprised that google released something for windows only, guess it means that it was made during "free" time.

No all applications are suitable to run inside a Web browser even with plug-in installed, for reasons performance and usability.

Google have been always testing the limit for what Web browser can do.

I tried using WINE to install it but no luck.

Very nice, and can confirm that for sites with existing Maps API it’s very easy to add (a change to one line and addition of one other). (you can see an example at the Thursday Club website – won't spam the URL).

This is great for Google to release and official plugin. Not sure if it is the same Luca but he created a delphi/activeX based plugin googleearthairlines that did the "same".

I created a prototype website using this and it was great!!! The only downside was that I think my website ran it ragged and it caused application errors with GE itself.

Long story short... time to put the official plugin to the test!!!

There is a bad point.
If you open 4 windows with a "Google Earth embedded" inside, you will have 4 new proccess. Check the memory used: HUGE.

Too bad they don't have a Mac version for Firefox. :(
