It's not often that I peek into my Spam/ folder, but I seem to be getting quite a few msgs of late with subjects proclaiming "you look pretty stupid Ianf" and the like, all pretty abusive.

Obviously they're meant to draw attention, make one inspect what new kind of penis enlargement techniques, etc are on offer.

Is this a new spam-titling trend, and everybody is getting their share, or am I so far behind the spam-development curve, as to be pathetic?

[ I suppose one should be content the spammers haven't yet discovered "creative" ortography, such as "yOU lOOK pRETTY sTUPID iANF" ;-))]

Acc. to David Pogue/NYT this is a new-ish tactic, "brilliantly social-engineered" botnet installer now accounting for 2-5% of all email traffic.

Abusive e-mail may contain more than insults

»[...] The latest tactic... uses vinegar instead of honey. I've been getting enormous amounts of spam with subject lines like "what a stupid face you have here pogue" and "you look really stupid pogue." [...]«
