As Google mentioned here:
http://igoogledeveloper.blogspot.com/2008/06/details-on-igoogle-canvas-view-launch.html

I've now got the new iGoogle, some things (bugs) have changed/been fixed since the sandbox, but its mainly the same. I have yet to find a Google gadget with a canvas view that offered anything but the small sized gadget, but I'm guessing that will come with time.

Also, the new iGoogle is now at http://www.google.com/; having "ig" after the domain still works, but it seems to work without it as well. Not sure if this is new or not, but I've just spotted it.

Is this a Firefox only feature if it uses Canvas? or are there other browsers that support that feature? Is there a version that works with IE?

I don't think the canvas view is related to the canvas element for drawing graphics.

Here's another dumb question. How would a user know if they are seeing the new version or the old version? Are there obvious differences between the two?

Colin, you can access the new version at:
http://www.google.com/ig/sandbox (iGoogle developer sandbox)

<<Are there obvious differences between the two?>>
It's similar to the screenshot that Ionut linked to, although there are some more rounded corners now.

You'll know it's changed aswell as it has the message "Welcome to the new iGoogle".

It also has a link to http://www.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=97658 but in classic Google support style for new products, it doesn't exist yet.

Another thing to mention is that Gmail chat is now included in iGoogle by default on the left hand side on the window (below the tab/gadget list).

I logged into iGoogle today, and it was new interface, the canvas interface that was in sandbox format a few months ago, went live for me today, with a learned more link on the top, which points to this link

I havent figured out how to add the update feature yet, im sure its a gadget.

anybody else have it?

OpenSocial support is coming in the summer, so you can't add it yet. As for the canvas view, really, it hasn't been rolled out yet, its simply the new interface at the moment.

If you take a look at
http://www.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=97658
you can see what iGoogle will eventually be.

The official digg.com gadget seems to take up the entire canvas page. It does not doing anything special but it at least doesnt stay in the column on the left when in canvas view.
