Robert X. Cringely, the headnerd (or is it nerdhead?) pundit of PBS, non-profit US radio/television network, has figured out the SuperSecret™ MASTERPLAN of Apple's Jobs "to take over the world."

The big news of WWDC June 11th announcement was not the supposedly-cheaper $199 base-price iPhone, but the "MobileMe, Apple's Microsoft Killer" – and, by implication, also Google Apps-killer, the one competitor M$HAFTs Ballmer constantly obsesses about, as they both go for market volume. Unlike Apple's toplevel-20%-customers-account-for-80%-revenue-market target, about which he writes:

» [...] Though Google has a very different approach than Microsoft does to almost every product and market segment, in this one aspect they are identical. Google, too, aims for maximal market share, which means they can't expect customers to pay and their cost structure has to be maintained such that they make a profit without being paid.

Which leaves a lucrative niche all to Apple. [...] «
