I came across this interesting thread on Streetview privacy concerns in the UK...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/technology/2008/07/google_privacy_and_street_view.html
whats more interesting is the comments about *where* the streetview cars have been spotted:
Leeds: "I did see a google maps car out and about in Leeds the other day, and wondered if this was what was underway."
London: "En route to my office in Victoria this morning I saw a Google camera car pulled over to the side of the road approaching Parliament Square, just by Horseguards Parade being closely examined by two uniformed police officers."
London: "I live in East London and have spotted the Google camera cars 3-4 weeks ago so it is incorrect they have just started."
Has anyone spotted the streetview cars elsewhere in Europe – or have you come across blogposts or comments mentioning it? It would be great to have some prior idea about the extent of Googles Streetview mapping for Europe...
Any sightings in Germany, or Spain, or elsewhere?

Yes, Street View cars were driving in other locations around Europe. Like Germany, France, Italy and Spain.
