It's good to hear that the Linux version isn't too far off.

"What’s the scrolling text on the wall? And that crowded whiteboard?"

About this feature... how can Google do this in this game or on a screen in their lobby and not be breaching people's privacy? What if I type in a person's name that is very unique and someone sees it in that list? Can't that name then be Googled by someone who sees it? I don't think I'm being paranoid coming up with this, and you might have talked about it somewhere here in the past... ? But seriously, the other day a coworker and I were on the train together complaining about certain issues in our office, and i thought to myself, I've just said out loud enough names for a google search to hit that combination if someone, for whatever theoretical reason, felt like typing them in. That is, for example, if my company has any sort of information like a photo page with names, etc online, but that's just one example.

Crap i used my Google account as my Lively ID

I'd like to be able to adjust the avatars like Miis (from the Nintendo Wii). Instead of having some default avatars, have them all built from the bottom up being able to adjust the height, body built, facial features, etc.

Navigation seems pretty difficult as well~ it's hard to get the camera view where you want it.

<<What’s the thought bubble over someone else’s head?
One theory is that it means they’re typing something at the moment.>>
I'm pretty sure that's it.

I like how there's no censorship. You can say fuck and curse freely. I hope they don't start blocking things. Perhaps a safe mode for kids but not for everyone

I would like to know of you can 'uninstall' it.

[put at-character here]Andy: Philipp stated in his post that the queries shown online are likely non-realtime fake and/or edited information.

As for the actual wall at Google HQ, if a Googler really wanted to mess with your information, well, let's just say there are probably easier ways than staring at the wall of search queries...

Having it installed won't make your computer slow. It will only be slow while you have it open and it's running. It can be uninstalled like any other program though.

Mysterious: yes, but a lobby is a place where it's freely view-able. I don't subscribe to the that view that it's already accessible so you might as well let them have everything and not worry about it. If that's true then do you worry about your privacy at all? I just find it to be a pretty obvious privacy blunder and find it funny that it doesn't automatically register as something they should respect if they're taking all these other measures for security.

Maybe offtopic, but something just dawned at me while reading this ginormous piece. If you have a lot invested in your google account, being banned is a huge punishment!

They could even calculate a trust-rank based on how much your google (gmail) account is used and how much data is in your account.

Just thinking out loud....

Philipp Lenssen [PersonRank 10]

Good point. They should only ban one's Lively account. It would be ridiculous if you'd be locked out of your Gmails because you played an evil person on Lively!

PS: Just saw this on the Lively help board:

<<So, this is basically an MMO game, right? So why can't I slaughter my fellow man?

Patch, please...>>

<<Same problem here. The health bar isn't showing and nobody gives me quests. Is this all about grinding or what?

And I already reached the level cap at lvl 1 and still have no
mount!!!!! >>

Thanks for this helpful FAQ.

I keep seeing "Joining room..." at the bottom of the frame. I can see the room and objects in it, but there are no people. Same thing with other rooms I entered (or tried to enter).

Philipp Lenssen [PersonRank 10]

Live Li, did you try logging out of your Windows system and logging in again (or rebooting, though logging out works here), and then trying to join a room again? This sometimes worked here...

Added:

<<*How come some normal objects are floating in the sky?*

A room (or “shell”) may have an invisible outside wall... like the dome-shaped limits of the island room. This is where you can move up an object like a plant or a chair to make it apparently float in the sky.

*I can hear the sound from what seems to be a YouTube video but I can’t locate the video. What’s happening?*

People can hide objects, like a YouTube TV player, in the most unlikely places... like under the island, for instance. Pan outside and even under the floor to locate certain hidden items.>>

I have tried repeatedly to upload a pic of my own artwork to a whiteboard.
I must be doing something wrong, I thought I followed the directions and still can't figure it out. Help!! Is this even possible?

Philipp Lenssen [PersonRank 10]

D. Ford, it is possible, you need to pick the customizable white board though, not the pre-filled one. Take this one:

---------------------------

Also, added a new entry to the FAQ...

<<*The images I’m adding to photo frames don’t fit, how can I solve this?*

For some reason the picture frame does not auto-adjust your image. After some experimentation I came up with this base image [below] you can use; just scale and rotate your image into the white box. Not sure if this is the best method...>>

I'd like to resize an object (picture frame), is that possible? Can you silence a video, or at least lower the volume without having to edit it outside Lively?

Another update to the FAQ:

<<If you're experiencing crashes whenever you leave the program, on Vista, one solution that may work for you is to add Lively's client.exe program to the list of exceptions to the data security prevention, a process which is described in Lively's help group (http://groups.google.com/group/lively-help-troubleshooting/browse_thread/thread/d2a216f42ae67a28)... but please use at your own risk, as I don't know what side effects this may have.>>

'maybe user created content in the future'? pffft. This google clone of 'There' is just as weak. Second Life for the win.
