Ask.com uses special backgrounds for holidays and you can also choose a background for the homepage.

I think Google should stick with its simlicity, and stay with their doodles.
You can't make an entire doodle over a background. It won't look good.
A doodle is lot like Google.. and as you all know, Google is different from the other companies, so if they'll copy ask.com, Live etc' they will lose their simlicity.
That's my opinion..
