I had to go back to my Google Web History to know. Searching Google is so automatic I usually don't even remember I did it.

Here are my 4 last searches, starting from most recent. I include them all, because every one of them shows different reason people search in Google:

1. I searched for "windows emulator mac os x", because my boss heard he could buy a Windows emulator and run some program on his MacBook using "windows emulation". I thought he probably meant "virtualization", but I wanted to check.

2. I searched for "keyloger" to check my spelling. It turned out it's "keylogger" and I should probably use "keystroke logger" anyway.

3. I searched for "http: //www.wikiupload.com/images/gay.php", because it was the top link in Digg Images, but the site was down. I wanted to access it using Google Cache. It worked.

4. I searched for "bph", a polish bank. I was on the site many times, and I now it's a first result in Google. It's just easier to type the name than to think about the full URL.

input type button: to see if "button" was a valid type of input element (couldn't remember for some reason)

jquery igoogle gadget: to see if it was possible (and if so, how) to use javascript frameworks in igoogle gadgets

"we currently don't support chat in this browser": to see if anyone else was seeing this new message on their iGoogle pages (I'm in the dev sandbox)

del.icio.us batch tag: to see if a tool existed to allow me to more easily edit my delicious bookmarks en masse

delicious tag venn: once my tag reorganization was done, I wanted to see if someone had made an application to show a venn diagram of one's delicious bookmarks (to determine how well I was making use of tags)

ABC Glasgow – Venue in Glasgow I wanted to check some gig listings for.

"Willamette Week" – to make sure I spelled "Willamette Week" correctly.

Finance – some future stock prospects

Shopping – 8gb flash drive

I don't really remember too many specific searches since I don't keep web history or cache. But I do know that for the last few dozen queries I've ran, the site or answer I wanted was either first or almost always in the top 3 results! It's been a while since I've had to hunt through the SERPS looking for something.

I think it would have been "blue", as I was comparing search results on Cuil vs Google. Spent some time then using Live search to look up non-Cuil (search engine) references to Cuil in Gaelic place names, since the Live index doesn't seem to get updated as quickly as the Google one, and I wanted to avoid the mass spam of recent Cuil entries. Seems that cuil in place names refers to "back" and not "knowledge", but whatever.

I use Firefox quick searches, so for definitions it's "dict <word>", for Wikipedia it's "wp <word>", and so on – lots of direct links to site searches, so I may be using the Google search engine without hitting Google. Spelling is handled inline. For maps I'll use maps.live.com (faster drilldown via middle-click drag if I know the geographic area well) or maps.google.com (multi-point modifiable directions, bus times).
