Google Desktop has a "Quick Find" feature that shows search results from your desktop as you type. The problem is that Google sends all the partial queries to a spelling suggestion server and there's no option to disable this feature (Google Desktop used to have this option).

I noticed that the feature can be disabled by editing the Registry:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareGoogleGoogle DesktopHyper]
"spelling"=dword:00000000
"suggest"=dword:00000000
