Today is 'Talk like a pirate day' and Google have released a language interface (like Klingon search) to help pirates everywhere – announced via the Google blog.

Interestingly it was predicted in Sep 2006 by a blogoscoped forum post!

I've got my own take on why Google are doing this. I think its to help reduce the global temperature and fits in with Google's environmental strategy :)

What was the point in translating the Directory pages? Does anybody use them? When did Google last update them?
Other than that this is just amazingly cool :P |
Me favourite be the use of "Crewe's" where before there be "Groups" |
The ninja community does not care! This move will only increase the pirate community's following and therefore giving the ninja community more target practice. Besides, could you imagine a Google in "Ninja"? All the pages would be blank! Nobody else would ever be able to navigate that |
Hehe good point! I wonder how long it takes them to make these pages up? And if they someones 20% project or not? |
Don't forget that ninjas already have the Reader Easter Egg :P |
For some unknown reason, when i go to google.com, i get the normal google, and not the pirate google thats everyone is supposed to get today |
[Moved from "Google in new language" – Tony]
As of today we are proud and rather relieved to announce that Google Search is available in Pirate.

The post: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/google-in-one-more-language.html
It's also Talk like a pirate day but Google didn't refer to that: http://www.talklikeapirate.com/ |
Santaji, to explain, Google is only showing that pirate lingo if you switch to the "Pirate" language in the settings and save. It won't just show by default on google.com, though you can directly visit http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=xx-pirate |
BTW, if anyone wants to see all the translations used, you can sign up for Google in Your Language and add "Pirate" as one of your languages. |
[moved from "Google Directory"]
Is there any reason that in the Pirate language page, there is a link to the seldom linked-to Google Directory in the top right link box, but it cannot even be views in More Links in english? |
