T-Mobile launched a website with a G1 emulator, it can be seen here, http://tmobile.modeaondemand.com/htc/g1/
You can see the phone in a 360 view, you can watch guides like removing the battery and you can use the emulator. |
Its not working for me altogether, I won't get farther then the main screen (even though I can turn the phone and slide it open)... |
Why would they release it in such a state? Shouldn't they be trying to generate the wow effect one would get from imagining using it with their hands? A broken flash emulation doesn't do that... |
The real emulator works pretty good but was not meant for show, but more for development. Most of the games and applications that were released exist only because of that emulator. It is quite a large download (92mb I believe) but its from google and its on good servers.
If you are looking for any games or apps for the real "working" emulator, check out my site android-dls.com under downloads.

It is not working I think google should demo. So more people come know about os... |
Still there for me (albeit loading very slowly). |
It's back for me to, no more errors. |
What's the significance of the red button in this screenshot? http://www.websonic.nl/nieuws/102008/images/tmobile_g1_1.jpg
Incidentially, I found a review of the demo-"emulator" incl. few quite informative pictures – which, however, presumably won't show up inserted here, but need to be invoked [ the Pocket-lint site has gone to some lengths to serve html-streams encoded as ".jpg"-ending files, while its pictures come with size-params tacked onto the end, which prevent them being decoded as pictures.]

The best bet would be to partner with Sun Microsystems...get the Sun Open Office Suite integrated into the g1, and add Java FX to get that wow effect, upgrade the Google babelfish for international travelers and businesmen. That would be the best bet, to create an al-in-one device that's actually useful, instead of just "neat". I would recommend some sdcard slot for future generations to get more expandability. Sans Disk...that's the trend. Flash memory is a thing of the past, pretty much. SDcards and minisdcards are the thing of the future. They'll get up to vene 160 gb, someday, in case you are really into porn. :) That's about the only reason one would need all that memory. 20gb is sufficient for most normal people. But the option should be available, I guess, for those who want more memory. Want more memory, just buy a greater capacity memory card. Simple. Swap out, as necessary. Google, shouldn't really be concentrating on the hardware, that's someone else's job, Google's job is software. Always was, always is, always, will be. Although, Google can give input to the hardware manufacturers about what kind of options they would like to have or need to run the software. Just my opinion. Yahoo! is more of a hardware company...always was, always is, always will be...still waiting for the hardware, Jerry. :) |
