I just hope that this is not their excuse for the long-promised to-do list functionality

Anyone else just getting a "Loading..." message on the calendar gadget? I'm glad they mentioned that the left nav is not ideal for all these gadgets. I wonder if they'll expand the drag and drop feature to allow dragging to the right column and let you move anything there from the left. It doesn't make much sense the way it works now, adding a separate feature for each item to appear on the right side (currently Chat and Labels only).

Also, at some point adding all these features will just cause Gmail to resemble iGoogle. There's no good way to surface this much information without going down the canvas route with everything gadgetized and able to expand to provide more functionality.

Some Zorgloob Readers ask themselves about security with this gadget feature : Is a gadget granted to access mails / contacts or only space to display itself ?

Cool, will be annoying with all the crappy gadgets though

Well at least it's not like Facebook, where you ended up loading all the crappy gadgets that were included on other peoples' profile pages. Here you have control over what gadgets you include, and if you've got a crappy gadget it's pretty much your fault for including it.

Whats wrong with going the "canvas route", personally I love the concept.

I'm just wondering, will I wake up one day and find that a Gmail lab experiment has been removed from the labs just as they did with the browser sync add-on?

I don't see where you get the URL ...? It's not on the google homepage that I see.

I have both the gadgets enabled and neither show up for me. I've had problems in the past using Calendar-related gadgets (I'm in Canada), and I suppose it could be related to that.
