http://Lively.com is supposed to be ending on December 31st, so if you want to preserve some screenshots or videos, the time to do so is closing in...
The time to enter the museum to view art from Blogoscoped projects and elsewhere is also closing :) http://www.lively.com/dr?rid=-7989542763665281062
Feel free to post Lively screenshots here... I'm in vacation in an internet cafe but I hope to take some screenshots now. |
The greatest screenshot ever: http://i39.tinypic.com/j5bfp4.png

Just so painfull to think of all those developers working on lively believing it would become the next gen internet... and then being forced to stop working on it... '-(
A pity I have never been albe to try it due to the windows only limitation |
Well i visited Lively for the last time to make a few screenshots for the archive, it was nice but i never used it a lot. |
Now it's definitely closed http://www.lively.com/html/goodbye.html |
I would like to have information about works of art that appear in "Games for the brain", if possible.

I found this unofficial resurrection: http://www.newlively.com/ |
Wow, now all 4 users can still hang out together. |
www.newlively.com works but there is not a word about google – is it really this lively project that was made by G or is it just a very smart idea to recive people's user names and passwords to google accounts?
Domain is registered for
NewLively liuyichanggmail.com +86.13511063516 NewLively No.12 Zhongguancun South Avenue Beijing,Beijing,CN +86.135110
that's wired!? |
M, you need to register a new account with them so it's not necessary to (and you shouldn't) give them your Google account password. And no, this is not an official Lively project, the site says it's completely inofficial, at least according to them. But the site is also quiet about who exactly the people behind it are, so take it with a grain of salt... and be careful. |
The newlively.com website doesn't even work with a Google account like Lively used to. You just have to register a user id and password. If you're not smart enough NOT to use the same user id and password you use for other services, that can hardly be blamed on the owners of Newlively.
I've been in newlively.com since I first heard about it on December 30th. Since then I have had numerous talks with the project lead, Liu Yichang, the owner of the domain name as mentioned by m.raczka. I have absolutely no reason to believe that there is anything weird or fishy about this project. My impression is that the developers are genuine fans of the now extinct Lively and see an opportunity where Google dropped the ball. And then go way further than what Google in their shortsightedness could not imagine where such a platform could lead to (is this syntactically correct at all?).
As you might have imagined I was a fanatic supporter of Lively. I wrote an article on my blog why I thought Google should keep Lively alive (see http://www.oriste.com/2008/11/24/lively-why-it-should-not-die). And I wasn't the only one either. After the announcement that Google would close Lively we formed a group that tried to move heaven and earth to convince Google to keep Lively alive (see http://groups.google.com/group/livelyzens). Alas, we failed. We rounded up as many users as we could find to write personal letters to Mel Guymon, Head of 3D Operations, Google Inc. Some of them are heart breaking. You can find them in the official Google Lively Help group at http://groups.google.com/group/lively-chit-chat/browse_thread/thread/3362b30f25cee74d
It all didn't matter. Google had made up their mind. Along comes a bunch of enthusiastic developers from China with the technical savvy to fashion a similar environment. They certainly have my full support. I hope they will manage to re-create the unique experience that Lively was. If they succeed, more power to them!

P.S. Doh! I only just noticed from the screenshot, Philipp, you were in *my* room in newlively and I wasn't even there to welcome you! :-) What a shame... |
Edit: Changed the link from newlively.com to www.newlively.com in the post. (I had some problems accessing the site before, though I don't know if there's any relation to the subdomain.) |
Thank you for your remind. Newlively.com also works now. |
