Not sure whether it's live for every one or not.
Here's a copy:

I'm not a fan. It looks cartoon like. Perhaps this is part of some celebration? Temp?

I like the older one... IMHO the latest has too many things for such a small space.

seems an attempt to use the Chrome logo for branding.
I still think that the capital G remains the recognized 'icon' for Google and it will always be until the default standard vanilla www.google.com presents it so prominently.
The 4 colors could work, but i think they need a better composition (the Chrome icon seems much better than the new favicon, for instance).

mhm... i think i gets quitea friendly touch also a little bit playful.. just as one may have liked to see google a few years ago :/

The last few comments seemed of no importance so I somehow missed your/Philllip's reaction (they all seemed the short kind of guick reactions...).
Well I think the chrome icon would fit google quite well, even though I tend to believe a capital g with a new design would be better. Wonder whether the last icon was only a transition icon to this one (people being shocked if this icon would have replaced the first one)

miko3k [PersonRank 0]

this icon is really great compared to previous one which really sucked. However imho it requires too much imagination to see the lowercase g now (which could a be good thing, lowercase g is not usable as logo anyway:))

Google needs to decide on the order of colours. It's a tiny detail, but it bugs me a lot. In the Google logo the four colours are in this order together. Red, yellow, blue, green. In the Chrome logo it's red, yellow, green, blue (if you end in the center), and in this logo its red, green, yellow, blue.

winxpguy [PersonRank 0]

At first I thought it was just some random colors, now that I came here I see the G.

im unconvinced. they only changed it a few months ago, so why repeat the exercise. stick with their classic shade of blue i say.

Mrrix32 [PersonRank 10]

OK I can see where Google is going here. Although I still dislike the 2nd logo. I can now see that the original logo may have been a bit too proffesional, and Google want to go for a more fun look.

I was reminded of the Windows flag though :P It's only 90 degrees out, the colours are in the right order!

Matt [PersonRank 0]

I don't like it too much. What's wrong with the plain blue background used in mobile? It's professional and clean looking. And why is it that Windows, AVG, and this new favicon have the same order, just rotated?

The Google Blog has a post on the new favicon.

The post shows some user suggestions that they say inspired the new favicon.

Personally, I like all three of the following better than the favicon that Google designed.

4.bp.blogspot.com/_7ZYqYi4xigk ...

André Resende

1.bp.blogspot.com/_7ZYqYi4xigk ...

Lucian E. Marin

2.bp.blogspot.com/_7ZYqYi4xigk ...

Yusuf Sevgen

(And the fourth one I like about equally with the final design, which isn't bad.)

What is it about software companies using Fisher-Price colors, icons, and logos that only a 4-year old could love. Is it so difficult to create and use adult, sophisticated color schemes? Are primary-colors some unspoken requirement?
Is this being policed by the same people that requires all Office Supply retail stores use red and white for their company colors? Time break out of the rut. Geeez.

Zim [PersonRank 10]

IT IS UGLY.
I'm sorry, but I had to put that in caps. It's so ***** ugly. And we are far away from April 1st to believe it will last only one day.
I want the good ol' G icon back :(

I like much more the new one, it's very easy to spot and look much professional than the previous versions.

As soon as soon as my Google page loaded, I noticed the new icon, because of its colours, and I love it! There's just something about it that's soooo much more interesting than the last two. I hope they keep it.

What's next? What's the plan?

Bob [PersonRank 0]

Some things are best left alone – Uppercase 'G' is just so simple and elegant......and screams 'Google', whereas this new mess could mean anything. Its a bit difficult squeezing much detail into 16x16 pixels – ends up looking too 'busy'.

I was thinking the same as @F.O.R. about Chrome's color similarity. Think of this new favicon as a "subliminal branding" attempt for Google to get people switched to Chrome, thus increasing their gain in browser market share.

Don't worry, i'm on to them ;)

Man, you guys. Weren't we all complaining about how lame the first favicon change was? Well, it was pretty lame. I'd have been glad to see it gone with just about any replacement. But this new one is actually pretty nifty. What's wrong with a little color and a few abstract shapes? It makes my tabs easier to find, and it's fun to look at for the 1/10th of a second it takes to click on one.

Andy Wong [PersonRank 10]

Yeah, IE7 still shows the old icon. And interesting Chrome never shows favicons.

How can you get the new icon into the FF search box?

PS for trivia only;

I don't like the new icon. Previous icon was even worse. The old one was a little better. It seems that it is a real challenge for Google to come up with a good icon :) Who are these art "geniuses"?

Shazbot [PersonRank 0]

Didn't everyone hate the first favicon when it came out, then after time you liked it. Then came the second favicon and everyone hated it at first then you came to like it. But with this one, some people here like it from the start, and eventually everyone will like this favicon. I certainly do, it fits well.

This is getting loads of views because its the 4th in the list when searching google favicon in google

Leon Poole [PersonRank 0]

Ah Google... what are you guys doing? The previous favicon didn't even last a year. I have to say that I think the previous one also looked better. -1 for the new favicon from me.

mrbene [PersonRank 10]

Didn't like the "before" and it didn't grow on me. It has made the "Older" look outdated tho.

The "new"? Well, the version by André is decent. The Google marketing team take on it? It looks like a committee designed it. In the "undesirable compromise" sense.

Harald Ringvold [PersonRank 1]

I like the new icon. They godt the color with it. Didn't like the last one.

Sorry but I hate it. I gave it two days and I still hate it. I thought Google was supposed to stand for "simple and elegant" and not for "playdough on crack in a 8-bit color scheme".

Thank God for Firefox. I'm changing it back as soon as I can find the old favicon online. I wish I had saved that somewhere.

Anton [PersonRank 0]

I think it's ugly. It looks way too busy on my Firefox toolbar (where I have several links to various Google properties).

So I used one of these solutions to get the old 'capital G' back:
