Ahhh! Will they just get on with it?
Am I the only one waiting for a product from Google that makes everything else work together?
It all seems so disjointed at the minute.
This might be it! |
seems more a Lost episode trailer.
more suspense! |
I hope you're right James |
Please let this happen, it will be a welcome change to our computing. |
Adobe air 1.5 code named "cosmo"... any connection??? |
I think Amethyst is the name of the extra storage management : https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageStorage?hl=en |
Yes, that's what I thought when I first read it too Luka. Have you ever heard it called that before? |
All of that is already available with Olipo plugins (I store my files on Gmail, my photos on Picasa, other stuff on Box.net, and all is agreggated in my Olipo drive).
olipo.net (click 'go' and check the plugins you need) I use the 'Gdrive on Gmail', 'Picasa', 'Box.net', 'Flickr' and 'RSS' plugins.

An awesome investigation!! thanks a lot. Dropbox does the trick for me but a GDrive really seems like a a good idea |
I really don't get the point. What's so special about the GDrive if there's Dropbox, Zumodrive, etc. around the internet. All that GDrive offers is nothing new. Everyone has a text processing software, thus everyone can edit her files. With Wuala, you can even edit them in the furthest away internet cafes in Cambodia and you can create Webshow with one click. I don't see a reason to use Picasa + GDrive + Google Apps so long as there's Wuala + MS / Open Office.
Could someone please explain me the advantages of the first option over the latter? |
Few advantages: Several users can edit the same document at the same time (up to 220 users on a spreadsheet, I think) You can read your documents on mobile devices. You can have "smart" features, such as the GoogleLookup functions (http://www.google.com/support/writely/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=54199), smart mapping of addresses using a Google Maps gadget on your spreadsheet, you can use your own gadgets, etc. You have neither to send a document nor to sync it, just give access and send the URL Publishing a document on the web can't be easier |
Ever thought about that this is and will only be for Google employees? lol Way too late for Google to release such a product... MS and others have it since ages... |
Full name Really? Where can I use such services? |
Mobista,
Microsoft has something called Windows Live Drive, but I don't think it integrates Pics, Docs etc like GDrive might |

Amethyst is a Canadian dancer that works as entertainer at Googleplex. No idea why they plan to integrate her, or how that would be done. |
Will he have it by the summer? Tracking this prediction at Nostradamical here – [nostradamical.com/predictions/entertainment/107- entertainment-prediction-will-google-s-famed-gdrive-be- with-us-by-the-summer-] |
Or maybe Google doesn't has any plans to release a webdrive, or only for Google Apps premium-customers? Eg Blogger have been in the CSS-file for a long time without any release, and video and postini is only for premium customers. http://blogoscoped.com/forum/125332.html
