I've developed a variant on the a normal tag cloud using the Flickr api and images. Instead of writing out the tag, I use an image instead.

It was using the Yahoo image search api, but as Philipp has pointed out before the safe search filter is rubbish, so I removed it and stuck with Flickr.

Yeah, that is Flickr. I've got page level caching for an hour set on the page, but it is Flickr that takes the time. Tony Ruscoe has suggested I use an AJAX approach to try and make it at least seem faster, which I'm going to look into, since I use AJAX quite a bit elsewhere on my site.

Glad you find it interesting though, I'll let you know how the AJAX approach goes.

I've updated it now to the AJAX version http://cgriley.com/tags/images/ it seems much quicker to load and I've used the AJAX to help provide feedback to the user as to where its at.
