Nine mystery silver discs can be seen above a bookmaker's shop in an image of Bethnal Green, east London, taken last year.

They appear to be flying in neat formation in three rows, attracting the attention of several passers-by, in the photograph of Wolverley Street.

When I zoom in, it looks like birds to me, and nothing like "discs". Admittedly, the flying formation is not the usual one but I've seen stranger patterns.

I've worked it out! It's the Air Force "Red Arrows" aerobatic display team. They fly groups of 9 planes in that formation:

hey – great detective work Roger. that certainly sounds plausible.

i remember the red arrows flying over my house last summer, about the same time as when google was doing streetview uk.
