1. "On behalf of" is a feature of your mail client (e.g.: Outlook) displayed when the sender header doesn't match the from header.

2. Gmail removed the sender header accidentally and this will be restored: http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Help-Message-Delivery-en/browse_thread/thread/f651cb1db5d9dd23/3a8bcd0548487863

3. Removing the sender value when sending messages from a different address (especially when it's from a different domain) is a huge mistake and your messages are likely to be flagged as spam. "The ideal (but non-trivial) fix is to enable you to send mail through your own ISP, while still allowing you to use the Gmail user interface."
