Gmail Gadget HTTPS issues

Somehow, the Gmail iGoogle gadget has stopped playing nice with Gmail accounts that are set to always use HTTPS.

I get this message where my Gmail gadget should be:

"The Gmail gadget does not support the 'Always use https' setting that you chose in full Gmail. If you would like to use https, please open full Gmail. Learn more"

Other people appear to be having the same problem:

I'm receiving the same message. I've checked from multiple PCs and I get the same results.

Is google planning to fix this?
Does anyone know when this will be fixed?
If this is not fixed it both eliminates the main benefit of using iGoogle and also makes gmail much less convenient.

If they do not want to provide https support for iGoogle, they could add a gmail setting to exempt it.

Maybe they should revert to the old version until they fix it.

I found some comments on the iGoogle gmail gadget page.

Most of the comments seem to be complaints about it no longer working when gmail uses https.
