<< A few months ago, we launched our YouTube channels redesign in beta (first via a secret opt-in URL that many of you discovered, then as a visible opt-in link). (...) We're now ready to start rolling out the new channels design to more users. Starting today, all new accounts will automatically have the new version of channels. (...) Finally, we'd like to give you advance warning that all existing channels will change over to the new design on July 15. >>

(the post has more than 20,000 comments, mostly from angry users, but the new channel design is better: it's more flexible and you can watch videos without leaving the page)

The real question is : how high is the percentage of Youtube videos that are watched on Youtube.com? I bet most of them are watched as embeded... Moreover, I also bet Youtube has an big bounce rate, because you click on a link, you see a video.... and you go elsewhere, you rarely search for other videos or videos from the same user, am I right?

I hate YouTube username = channel. What if Blogger did that? Users should be able to create and share shannels.

Above 3 comments were made in the forum before this was blogged,

When will people learn. They cannot change it. YouTube has to change to the new layout and these people are just whingy. It's facebook redesign all over again.

I agree with DPic, I have to use separate accounts for my different channels, I can't even link them all to the one Google Account. Playlists was supposed to try and solve the problem of multiple channels..but... yeah, that sucks.

That's what I was going to post :P

Redesigning a your product is a problem. You know there are problems with your current design and want to change them. But when you do, the users get annoyed because they where used to your old layout. I say product, because it applies to anything, not just websites *cough* Office 2007 *cough*

Leaving the choice of website, would be seen as better from the users point of view, but from the developers, they still have to support an old design that might be difficult to get new features into (Hence the redesign)

Old channel rules.

1. You do not talk about old channel.
2. No smoking.

People are afraid of change. I'm sure there is a whole design team who has tested and retested it and who have come to a final design, using input of selected testers. Comments like 'u should ask ur users' are inpractical, like you really want to ask the opinion of several would-be designers.
They'll get used to the new design in a couple of weeks and when presented with the old version agree in unison that the new one is better. Mark my words.
