The shape doesn't look much like an apple to me, and anyway Apple's apple has a bite out of it.

But what are the grooves in the yellow segment supposed to represent?

Just an idea for a permanent name for the Google Chrome OS. CLOUD 9. The emblem would be a cloud with Google 9 inside the cloud, perhaps if you look hard you can see OS as part of the cloud.
   Cloud 9, two steps ahead of w7.
   If this suggestion is used you will soon be on Cloud 9! As I certainly will be.
   How are you ? Answer, On CLOUD 9!
