<<Google is not a computer company. It is an advertising company. Google makes its money from advertising.>>

But why should Google generates its money only from advertising? What has mad Google so big is its capacity to adapt.

Google has said for years that its core business is the "apps-ads-search" trinity.

Now, Google can *sell* its apps. It hurts Microsoft and keeps students and employees within the Google ecosystem. But more importantly, it diversifies its revenue stream. And it's a huge market.

W. Buffet said that "[Google's] moat of competitiveness is so wide and what they do is so tough to compare and to compete with that in that moat are sharks and crocodiles that no one can get near.”

But this statement can only apply to search and ads activities. For apps, Google relies on Microsoft – who rushed to the cloud – and Apple – who bans Google from its marketplaces a little more everyday.

A light OS may distract Google's engineers and confuse users, but it's all about protecting a multi-billion market. What if Windows 9 is Chrome-OS-like? For Google, even though it may make the company old and evil, it's probably worth it.
