I was reading this Washington Post article and found this snippet interesting

<< It looks like along with new features, Google Docs may be getting a new interface soon, perhaps in the fight to one-up Microsoft Office's new web-based productivity suite.>>

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/27/AR2009082702115.html

Personally I've never liked the Google Docs interface (compared to Office 07) but have been using Docs and Spreadsheets more (you know to collaborate, access them across multiple computers etc) so I can't wait :D

P.S. WaPo even links to something for the text "a new interface" but that's a 404. And I have found some vague references to the new interface but none that sound like a complete overhaul.

Note also that GData DocList api has been updated http://googledataapis.blogspot.com/2009/08/pdfs-revisions-folder-sharing-in.html

It now provides folder sharing: http://code.google.com/apis/documents/docs/3.0/developers_guide_protocol.html#ACLSharingFolders so we can expect that folder sharing will be available with the new-coming UI interface.
