This one came out of nowhere. Chrome OS is now available for download. It's not the final version, but a beta.

Today a message was posted on Dailytech.com, also removed. The headline in Google Reader was "Google Launches Chrome OS Beta", "Google takes the fight to Microsoft and Apple".
