Click on the link below the big Download Google Pack button, and you are taken to the custom install page, where you can choose these extra features.

go to the bottom right of pack.google.com and click on "Add or remove software" |

I successfully installed everything that I wanted to try. The Gallery Images thing doesn't look like much. It said it updated my FF but I dont see a difference. Screenshots are here: http://brinkeguthrie.blogspot.com |

/pd, I first saw only a smaller selection, but after downloading the initial screensaver I saw the more complete list. Either Google changed it the minute I was downloading, or you're able to download more stuff as soon as you have the Google Pack Instasller.... I was wondering myself! |

once the google pack is installed, the download page customises itself from what you have already installed.
this is a bit like windows add/remove programs, but loads more useful! |

Google is advertising Google Pack straight on the Google homepage for some (I can't see it, but Brinke could): http://blogoscoped.com/files/google-pack-on-homepage.jpg
Brinke has some more nice screenshots of Google Pack: http://brinkeguthrie.blogspot.com/2006/01/google-pack-released.html |

yawn!
This development wasn't worth an announcement. |
Caleb E | 18 years ago # |
Phillip, it doesn't show the full list when you download the first time--it'd be a wee bit overwhelming i think, particularly considering their target audience is really more computer illiterate people. There's a link somewhere on the start page to view all. |

Nothing to get excited about. I already have all of the software in there I want. Interesting move. A bit underwhelming |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
Bundling software is evil. But Google turned this one around nicely. It's a bit like with the iPod Shuffle.
Steve Jobs: "Let's sell an iPod without a display!" Other: "But you won't know which song is playing!" Steve Jobs: "Let's announce that as key feature!" |

heheh is anyone playing with alerts and KML yet ?? its great!! |
ardief | 18 years ago # |
Have to agree with who says it's underwhelming – I realize it's a great way to reach out to non-geeks, but it does leave you a bit...empty. |

I didn't see the Google Video Player at the download page. Everything else was as Phillip has described and as Brinkes screenshots show. Is it currently removed from the pack? (I tried january 7, 11am GMT+1). Or could it be because I'm doing it from Denmark? I can see that Google Video Player isn't included in the help pages either. Both from where I see it and in Brinkes screenshots. |

NAV: "Includes 6-month subscription to protection updates" It sounds like in 6 months user has to pay for the antivirus. Understandible, but.. not very Google way :(
Or does it mean, that we should reinstall the pack every 6 months to get the virus protection for free? :) |
/pd | 18 years ago # |
Caleb, actaully, the remaining s/w can be obtained from the link within the google updater screen... Open the updater, and click on"'get more softeware "link on the top right hand of display. the following is optional install..not default

Amit writes:
"Just hours after Larry Page unveiled the Google Pack at CES 2006, Google has removed the Google Video Player from Google Pack. The Google Video Player product link is returning a 404." http://labnol.blogspot.com/2006/01/google-video-player-out-of-google-pack.html
Happy I got it while there was still time :) |

Can anyone tell me if they've been successful in downloading the Google Video Player or even going to the new Google Video Store page?
I am in France, I know there is a restriction from Google in this sense, altough I am using the Google Web Accelerator, it doesn't seem I can get it anyhow.
Also, has anybody got their hand on the FULL coverage (the 90 mins) of Larry's CES Keynote ??
Thanks |
Caleb E | 18 years ago # |
AFAIK, the video store is "coming soon". The video player help page returned a 404 from the very begining. |
/pd | 18 years ago # |
Caleb, your correct. From what I am hearing there aren't any files available in GVI or GVP format for public consuption.!!
Remember they (googs) just signed up some of the major msm. so all that foo still needs to be converted to the format of gvi and gvp!!
methinks another 4 days work.....

The ol' Pack is getting some awfully lukewarm reviews... http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/google_pack.asp |
