Google Announces Video Store (View post)Philipp Lenssen | Saturday, January 7, 2006 18 years ago |
Engadget seems to be down right now. Their live blog coverage was pretty interesting (and funny – Robin Williams was on the stage next to Larry Page). |

the Google Video Player seems not working,it just cant play any video from google video after installition. |

So where's my Google Video Store? Larry said in his keynote that it would be up that day. Umm, where? |

The Google Video Player seems to only play GVI and GVP files, whatever those are. I couldn't play WMV, MPG, or Google's own FLVs that one can download via the unofficial Google Video Downloader site. And from what I've heard, I won't be able to buy GVI/ GVP files from the Google Video Store because it needs a US credit card (at the time being, I can't view any video at Google Video at all unless I enable the Google Web Accelerator). |

how to convert gvi to another Video file!! |
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 18 years ago # |
Try http://www.virtualdub.org/
Open your gvi file and save as avi, for example. If you want to reduce the size of your resulted file, download DivX Converter http://www.divx.com/divx/create/converter/
|
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 18 years ago # |
You should install DivX Converter before opening the file with virtualdub |

I've tried this and I still can't get it to work. When I go to open the google video file in virtualdub, it won't open because it doesn't recognise the file! Any suggestions? |

hey guys...i really need to convert a .gvp file to a .wmv and its angering me i cant find a way to do it |
Garrett | 18 years ago # |
A .gvp file is nothing. It's a tiny text file that contains a little bit of metadata associated with the video file as well as a link to where to download it.
You want to open the GVI file. GVI. It's located at My DocumentsMy VideosGoogle Videos |

hey guys. here´s an idea. its a worse. but on my machine it works: you need the mozilla firefox: http://download.enet.com.cn/html/EN010022002101601.html#freedown Then the extension "videodownloader 1.0" : http://www.chip.de/downloads/c1_downloads_ls_getfile_v1_19803283.html?t=1148160762&v=3600&s=6cc1356b66e9fad217537e0a85780dac Then you need VLC aka Video Lan Client: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
Now you can start the Video in Video-Google. While the Video runs you click the videodownload-symbol in your firefox in the left low corner. That window alows you to download the file which is runs at moment as an flv.-file. After Downloading it, you should be able to watch it from your harddisk with the VLC-Player. Sometimes without sound or something. If that helped you please, give me a Feedback. Hope everything is understandable because my english is not the best. Have a nice day. |

EDIT: If you download the flv-file you can view it with the FLV-Player: www.videospark.com/index.php?ssp=21 (if link doesn´t work just google for it)
Otherwise you can download the file as AVI but you must use the VLC player to view it. (...on my machine... i think i have a problem with my windows media player – it doesn´t want to play mpeg/mpg files anymore :/) |

there's no problem with the player...just that one has to wait till it downloads(buffer)...then it can play offline...but why can't the downloaded video be played on other media/video players |

Super C is a very good program to convert many video files, but cannot convert GVI :(
Virtual dub as well couldnt convert gvi files. I had gone through some settings and make it see by changing the option to see all types instead of one specific type. Then when I save as avi, the progress bar flashes and disaapears. the final product is an avi file with 1 second.
Found this, but havent bought it to see if it can do it. http://www.naevius.com/gvi_converter.htm

GVI is just AVI (DivX) with some Google headers. Rename the GVI to AVI and play it with MPlayer or Media Player Classic. |

TO CONVERT GVI ==============
1) Downloaded the google video player and GVI videos you wish to convert.
2) Download a screen video capture recorder, I use CaptureWiz – Brilliant program which lets you select a specific area to record live.
3) Play the video using google, start up CapturWiz, 'frame' the video area you wish to record then record it.
4) Export/Save the recording as AVI.
5) Convert AVI using any one of the millions of freeware conversion tools out there to whatever format you want.
I haven't found a GVI conversion program yet...
Hope this helps
