The Next Web Writes :
Facebook Chat’s integration with Jabber/XMPP is just around the corner which means you’ll be able to use applications like Gtalk to communicate on Facebook.
According to ProcessOne the launch is imminent as their bot on IMTrends has indicated the XMPP software stack has been deployed on chat.facebook.com.
Once launched, Facebook will allow chat applications like Gtalk to let their users communicate with their friends, see which of their friends are online and view their profile pictures as well as set their statuses.
With Facebook giving their 300 million users access to the protocol it will mean XMPP becoming the most popular instant messaging protocol on the planet.
Google Wave’s federation protocol is an open extension to the XMPP protocol.
